Kana Nishino

Kana Nishino (西野カナ) is a J-Pop artist under Sony Music Entertainment. She debuted on February 20, 2008 with her single I.

From young, Nishino learned English from Eikaiwa schools and went to America twice. She was already interested in various genres of music, including hip-hop, R&B and reggae. In addition, she also enjoys traditional Japanese literature, and started singing Japanese folk songs. Her dream of becoming a singer was discovered during junior high school. When she was 16, her mother secretly sent a demo tape of hers to the Miss Phoenix Audition (ミス・フェニックスオーディション) and she was rated the top singer entrant out of approximately 40,000 applicants. In 2006, she signed a contract with SME Records.

While preparing to be a singer om 2007, she studied English literature at university. At the time she met Australian duo Nervo, who offered Nishino a song "I Don't Wanna Know" for her music project. Nishino rewrote the song's lyrics into Japanese and re-titled it "I".

In December 2007 her official site opened, ever since then *I* ~Merry Christmas ver.~ became available as a digital download in several Japanese sites, including mora.jp. Coincidentally, the original version of the song "I Don't Wanna Know" was also available as a digital download on the American iTunes on New Years' Day. The CD was released two months later, 20th of February.

Her second single "Style" was used for the 2nd ending theme song for the japanese animation "Soul Eater" and the her 4th single "Make Up" was used for the ONA Chocolate Underground from UK's miniseries Bootleg with one of its songs, Kirari, as inserted song.
